We discuss the formulation of a resistive MHD algorithm within the context of the ALEGRA shock physics code. The equations for the magnetic vector potential are discretized using finite elements and solved using the AZTEC linear algebra package. The formulation will be described and the consequences of solving this system for large numbers of elements will be discussed. Example computations will be shown demonstrating the parallel ALE capability available in ALEGRA and the MHD modeling. We also discuss possible future directions for improvements to this capability. *Sandia is a multiprogram laboratory operated by Sandia Corporation, a Lockheed Martin Company, for the United States Department of Energy under contract DE-AC04-94AL85000.
