First-Order System Least Squares for Elliptic Problems with Discontinuous Coefficients

Abstract

We will present a finite element method for the div-curl first-order system with a discontinuous coeficient that incoporates singular basis functions in the finite element space. These singular basis functions model the behavior of the sulution at a cross point of the discontinuous coeficient exactly and are set up to have local support in a small fringe region around the point of singularity.
